Children FAQ
1. Are classes safe?
The Wing Tsun children's program is a highly supervised activity. The children are never asked to perform any movements that would put them in danger of injury. Our children's curriculum has been specifically designed to accommodate ages four to twelve, ensuring that children of these ages can successfully learn and perform all the physical activities necessary to excel. The curriculum is never harmful; it is sometimes a little challenging to build greater self-image and feelings of achievement but never so difficult that a child may experience "failure".
2. Will my child have fun?
Wing Tsun children's program is good, clean fun for kids...and a great way to give kids a head start on life. It has been our understanding that parents want the lasting benefits of confidence, respect, self-esteem and self-discipline that the Wing Tsun children's program offers, however, we don't want a struggle with the children when it's time to get ready for class. Our instructors have become leaders in the field of motivating children. It is a required part of our instructor training to take seminars that encourage children to want to learn. Motivation, excitement and fun are the essential tools we use to increase the learning and performance of our Wing Tsun students. We also offer various school events that teach and reinforce the skills necessary to get along better with others, thus creating a spirit of teamwork and a sense of belonging. In future months our students will meet Martial Arts stars, attend pizza parties, summer fun camp and more. Not only do our students learn the most, they have the most fun too!
3. Will my child learn to be abusive?
Absolutely not! Wing Tsun children's program is self-defence, not self-offence; this is a subject which lies very close to our hearts and one we take care to instruct at every opportunity. Every child is taught our "student creed", which is a necessary part of learning the philosophy of our school. Student creed line number three states...."I will use common sense before self-defence and never be abusive or offensive". Our creed is a commitment students learn in order to maintain the courtesy and integrity of our Art.
4. What will my children learn?
Our primary focus is to teach children "life skills". Because a structure of respect, courtesy and honesty is built into Wing Tsun children's program, children develop the ability to listen, learn, and achieve within a highly regulated environment. Most sports don't build leadership traits, If a child has the necessary skills to perform, they’re in the game, if not they’re on the bench. Wing Tsun children's program is different; the program is designed to enhance and develop the skills associated with leaders. Each week we teach the children how to develop such traits as confidence, self-discipline, listening skills, honesty, integrity, teamwork and much, much more. The classes combine the fun and excitement of Wing Tsun children's program training with weekly mental and philosophical lessons designed to strengthen our children mentally and physically. Currently our schools program and centre offer great opportunities for anyone to start.Â
5. What do the lessons cost and are they worth it?
The cost is simple, £5 per lesson per child. The value and benefits are many and far reaching. Foremost, as mentioned above, is that leadership skills are not often taught cohesively to children under 16: We offer the opportunity for them to learn and reinforce essential skills which will be invaluable to them in their later lives, when there may not be the opportunities or time needed to develop these skills on their own. Also by having fun in a group environment they will build on social skills that will improve their interaction positively with others: adults and children alike. Physically their fitness, co-ordination and willingness to engage in physical activities will blossom as they are shown what they can accomplish with a little dedication and discipline. This increases their self-esteem and confidence in all their endeavours both physical and intellectual.
